Workplace Mediation

"He is constantly on me for one thing or another. He doesn't treat anyone else that way"

"What are you going to do about it?"

"What can I do? If I complain it will only get worse, and with that new job coming up, I know he's going to pick his buddy over me and is just looking for an excuse to do so."

What is Workplace Mediation?

Workplace mediation can assist employers and workers in addressing conflict in the workplace, in a non-adversarial manner, often allowing for things to be resolved prior to escalating further. Workplace mediation provides an opportunity for those involved to address the issues, explore options and reach a workable outcome through a mutually agreeable course of action. The process essentially revolves around giving the individuals concerned an opportunity to give their side of the story and to work with together with a workplace mediator to find a solution.

What Kinds of Issues can be Addressed?

  • Interpersonal differences, conflicts, difficulties in working together.
  • Harassment or issues of prejudice
  • Breakdown in a working relationship between co-workers, or worker and employer.
  • Discipline issues.

What are the Advantages of Workplace Mediation?

Workplace mediation is a voluntary and confidential process. It can only take place on the basis that all sides are agreeable to participate. The workplace mediation process is solution focused with the object of reaching a workable and mutually agreeable solution to the conflict or issue of difference. The workplace mediator is impartial and does not take sides but helps the participants to find a lasting settlement and in changing the conflict into a positive growth.

"So now what about the promotion?"

"Well the boss recommended a training program coming up, and said they'd pay for it, and then maybe I'll apply, if not this time, then next."
